Kingsbury

Forest Hills, TN

Located in a wooded neighborhood, the evolution of this home started with a property of the homeowner’s grandparents being reused as the homeowner’s forever home.  After a thoughtful study on site constraints and the desired spaces for the new home, the design moved forward with a footprint similar to that of the neighboring ranch homes.  Although the home is two stories, the depth is made to feel like a ranch home allowing enjoyable, natural light in most spaces. Further inspiration from ranch style homes shows up with the central hallway with rooms on both sides, a floor plan feature that allows for an efficient use of square footage and movement throughout the home.  Whispering with a soft and neutral exterior, the home brings a quiet and timeless energy to the site.  In a subtle highlight to the entry, the main stair becomes a focal point with the exterior stone and at the interior with an open and modern design.  With a wide entry, open stair, and a shallow depth to the floor plan, the main living spaces take in views to the outside from multiple angles, always feeling connected to the outdoors.  While the living spaces feel open and the central hallway allows for efficient connection in the floor plan, the private spaces maintain peace and seclusion.  Outside of the home, an existing garage was repurposed as an adult hangout area and exercise space.
